A kameti tracker records two things: every monthly payment you make into a committee, and the payout you receive when your turn comes. For a member, the easiest way to keep that record in Pakistan is on WhatsApp. Type "5000 committee" each month and "committee aayi 50000" on your payout month, and HissabAI logs both against your monthly budget, with no spreadsheet.
Committees (also called kameti, BC or bisi) are one of the most common ways Pakistanis save. Research by Oraan, cited in Dawn, estimated that around 41% of Pakistanis have saved through a committee. Yet most committees still run on memory, a notebook and a WhatsApp group full of screenshots. This guide shows how to track one properly, both as a member and as an organiser.
How a Kameti Works (Quick Refresher)
A committee is a rotating savings group. A fixed number of members each pay the same amount every month, and each month one member receives the whole pot. It runs for as many months as there are members.
| Committee detail | Example |
|---|---|
| Members | 10 |
| Monthly payment per member | Rs. 10,000 |
| Monthly pot (payout) | Rs. 1,00,000 |
| Duration | 10 months |
| Your total paid in | Rs. 1,00,000 |
| Your total received | Rs. 1,00,000 |
Nobody earns interest and nobody pays it. Your turn decides what the committee does for you:
- An early turn works like an interest-free loan. You get Rs. 1,00,000 in month one and repay it over the next nine months.
- A late turn works like a forced savings plan. You save Rs. 10,000 a month and collect it all at the end.
Because the rupee loses value over time, the timing matters more than most people think. We work through the numbers in Committee vs Gold Savings in Pakistan.
Why Committees Are Hard to Track
Committees are simple in theory, but real ones get messy:
Payments come from different places. One month you pay the organiser in cash, the next through JazzCash, and the next through a bank transfer from your spouse's account. Three months later you can't prove what you paid.
Many people are in more than one committee. A family committee, an office committee and a mohalla committee, each with a different amount and date, add up to Rs. 18,000 a month that nobody budgets for properly.
The payout gets spent invisibly. Rs. 1,00,000 arrives, Rs. 20,000 goes on a pending bill, Rs. 15,000 goes to Eid shopping, and six weeks later the money is gone without the goal it was saved for.
Organisers carry the risk. If a member misses a payment, the organiser often covers it from their own pocket, and that's a debt that needs tracking too.
How to Track Committee Payments on WhatsApp
HissabAI treats committee payments as their own category. They don't blur into "misc" or "transfers". You type them like any other entry:
| You type | What gets recorded |
|---|---|
| 5000 committee | Monthly committee payment, Rs. 5,000 |
| kameti 10000 di | Committee payment, Rs. 10,000 (any common spelling works: committee, kameti, kumeti, comitee) |
| committee aayi 50000 | Payout received, Rs. 50,000, saved as income |
| report | Monthly breakdown, with committee shown as its own line |
To build the habit, set a daily nudge with "reminder 9pm". HissabAI checks in at that time each day, and paying the committee becomes part of the routine of logging the day's spending.
One tip if you're in two committees: add the group name to the entry, such as "5000 office committee" or "3000 family kameti". The words you type are saved in the entry's note, so you can tell the two apart in your transaction list on the web dashboard.
Never miss a kameti payment again. Type "5000 committee" on WhatsApp and it's logged and budgeted. 7-day free trial, no app download. Start here → wa.me/message/4FXU5JGJ52SWM1
A Simple Committee Tracker Table for Organisers
If you run a committee, you need a record of every member's payments, not just your own. HissabAI records your personal money, so for the group ledger many organisers keep a simple table like this, in a notebook or a spreadsheet:
| Month | Payout to | Ahmed | Bushra | Faisal | Hina | ... | Collected | Missing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nov 2026 | Ahmed | Paid 3 Nov | Paid 2 Nov | Paid 5 Nov | Paid 4 Nov | ... | Rs. 1,00,000 | 0 |
| Dec 2026 | Bushra | Paid 4 Dec | Paid 1 Dec | Late (10 Dec) | Paid 3 Dec | ... | Rs. 1,00,000 | 0 |
| Jan 2027 | Faisal | Paid | Paid | Paid | Not paid | ... | Rs. 90,000 | Rs. 10,000 |
Five rules keep an organiser's records clean:
- Write the payout order down before month one and share it in the group. Most committee disputes start with "mera number to pehle tha".
- Record the date of every payment, not just a tick.
- Ask for digital payments where possible. A JazzCash, Easypaisa or bank transfer leaves its own receipt.
- Post a monthly status message in the group: who has paid, who hasn't, and who receives the pot.
- If you cover a missing payment yourself, record it as udhaar to that member, for example "Hina ko 10000 udhar diya". It's a real loan, and it needs a real record. See our udhar khata guide for how that works.
Budgeting Around Your Kameti
A committee only helps if it fits your monthly budget. Here's how to plan for it:
Treat the committee as a fixed bill
Your Rs. 10,000 committee payment is as non-negotiable as rent. Put it in the same group as rent, bijli and school fees when you plan the month, and pay it in the first week after salary arrives.
| Example: Rs. 1,20,000 monthly income | Amount |
|---|---|
| Rent | Rs. 35,000 |
| Committee | Rs. 10,000 |
| Utilities (bijli, gas, internet) | Rs. 14,000 |
| School fees | Rs. 12,000 |
| Fixed total | Rs. 71,000 |
| Left for groceries, transport, food and everything else | Rs. 49,000 |
If your committee payment pushes the fixed total above about 65% of your income, the committee is probably too big for this stage of life. You'll end up borrowing to pay it, which defeats the point.
Decide what the payout is for, before it arrives
Write the goal down the day the committee starts: "Committee payout = motorcycle down payment" or "= Hina's school admission". When the money arrives, spend it on that goal within a week. Unassigned money gets absorbed into daily life surprisingly fast.
Don't count the payout as a raise
When "committee aayi 1,00,000" shows up in your income for the month, your report will show a big surplus. It isn't really extra money; it's your own savings coming back. Look at your income excluding the payout to judge whether your normal month is balanced.
Committee Risks Worth Knowing
Committees run on trust, and there's no legal protection behind most of them. Dawn has reported cases of organisers collecting large sums and defaulting, including one case involving Rs. 420 million in committee payments run over social media. To protect yourself:
- Join committees run by people you know personally, not strangers online.
- Prefer committees where the payout order and the member list are written down and shared.
- Pay digitally so you have proof.
- Be cautious about taking a very late turn in a large committee with a new organiser. The late turns carry the most risk.
- Keep your own record of every payment, even if the organiser keeps one too.
Digital committee platforms have also started appearing in Pakistan, some linked to mobile wallets. They can reduce organiser risk, but read the terms carefully before you join one.
How do I track my committee payments?
Record each monthly payment on the day you pay it, along with the date and amount, and record the payout when you receive it. On WhatsApp with HissabAI, you type "5000 committee" each month and "committee aayi 50000" on payout day. Both appear in your monthly report, so your committee is always part of your budget.
Is there a kameti app in Pakistan?
There are a few options. Some digital committee platforms run the whole committee for a group, and expense trackers like HissabAI track your personal committee payments and payout. HissabAI works inside WhatsApp, so there's nothing to download, and it understands spellings like committee, kameti and kumeti.
Should the committee payout be counted as income?
For tracking, yes: the payout is money coming in, so record it as income in the month you receive it. For planning, remember that it's your own savings returning, not new earnings. Judge your monthly budget on your regular income, and give the payout a specific job before it arrives.
Is it better to take the first or last turn in a committee?
The first turn is better if you need money now, because it works like an interest-free loan. The last turn suits disciplined savers, but with inflation around 10% in 2026 (according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics), the money you collect at the end buys a little less than the money you paid in. A late turn also carries more risk if the organiser is unreliable.
How do I remember my monthly committee date?
Pay on the same day each month, ideally the day after salary arrives, so the committee is settled before other spending starts. Put the date in your phone calendar as a monthly event, and log the payment on WhatsApp ("5000 committee") as soon as it's done. Your monthly report then shows whether you paid.
